Overhyped, overrated, overpriced.
We’ve heard it all, but maybe it’s time to just get over it.
Say what you will, but there’s no denying that the Skyline GTR has always been an object of desire and that its desirability has only continued to build this last decade. There must be something about its sleek lines, its fulfilment of a lineage of cars with remarkable design and history, its cultural relevance or the way it looks on the road or track that makes people want to own one, and Charles Wong is no exception.

The thing is, most people would be content to have just one of these cars (if any), but Charles has amassed a shocking collection of them and has made a name for himself in the Nissan Skyline community for both the cars that he builds and experiences as well as the vehicles that he sources for businesses and individuals.

He let us drop by his shop to check out his fleet of Nissan Skyline R34 GTRs (and a couple of other generation Skylines, plus a 22B and an FD3S RX7)—and he came out to film with us in his silver street car that makes approximately 400 wheel horsepower and features a sequential transmission, big brake kit and wide Advan monoblock wheels.

One thing that frequently crosses my mind is how people often talk down on the successes and accomplishments of others. I guess when you live inside of the myopic lens of your insecurity it’s easier to believe that people have what they have because of dumb luck or having it handed to them. This type of behaviour is evident more often than I would like to see when it comes to Charles. Despite being one of the most humble and kind people I know, somebody always needs to comment on how it “must be nice to have rich parents” as if he’s some teenage kid in a Lamborghini and not a hard-working adult that bought into these Skylines at the most opportune time.

What they don’t understand is that you don’t need endless amounts of money or Forbes-tier connections to accomplish your goals; sometimes all it takes is hard work and taking advantage of opportunities when they come up, and Charles did exactly that. In this video, we hope to show you a brief glimpse of what it looks like when someone actually does the necessary work and ends up succeeding in their passions.

Charles is an inspiration: he built up a fantastic collection by working hard and being smart with his money while doing something he loves every day—and then he shared that passion with us all by coming out to film with us!
